Ask what the coach has actually done
Previous military service, sports coaching qualifications and current appointment to a selection organisation are three different claims. Ask for verifiable professional credentials and experience relevant to the service you want. Do not assume that a biography featuring a uniform proves a present-day relationship with UK Special Forces.
Insist on an explicit scope
General fitness programming, civilian navigation education and recovery literacy may be lawful areas of support, provided competent professionals supervise them. An offer of secret selection tasks, protected material or influence with assessors is a reason to walk away. No commercial programme can award eligibility.
Ask about adaptations and referrals
A responsible coach should explain how they account for a person's baseline and when they would refer someone for medical advice. Generic intense sessions are easy to market, but an individual cannot safely infer that a high workload is appropriate from a website. Seek professional input for pain, underlying conditions or major new exertion.
Read the commercial terms
Before committing, confirm what is delivered, who delivers it, price, cancellation and refund terms, insurance, data handling and whether the coach is available across the relevant dates. Promises of guaranteed passes are not credible commercial terms.
Consider whether you need to buy yet
The Army provides substantial public information free of charge. For some applicants the next best step is official eligibility clarification or establishing consistent general exercise rather than purchasing specialist mentorship. Commercial preparation should add demonstrable individual value.
A practical decision exercise
Ask the provider to send a one-page service scope naming the coach's relevant qualifications, boundaries, insurance, price and cancellation terms. If they will not, that itself is decision-useful information.
